In addition to cabling, taping or insulating your material, we are able to incorporate many customer-specific items into our custom cables. We have worked with items such as commodity-based cables (category cables, for example), fiber optics, vent tubes, specialty compounds and insulations, and proprietary alloy materials.

Why would a customer supply their own materials?
Toll manufacturing is an outsourcing arrangement where a customer provides their own raw materials or semi-finished goods to a third-party manufacturer. The third party uses its facility, equipment, and labor to process the materials into finished products. This typically happens where the customer owned material may be extremely custom, perhaps even produced by the customer, and they require additional manufacturing and processing operations they are not capable of doing themselves to produce the finished cable.
While not necessarily routine in the wire and cable industry, the practice isn’t uncommon.
What customer-supplied materials can New England Wire process?
Typically, customer-supplied materials are bare conductors, an insulated conductor, or a sub-component cable. In many instances the customer requires further processing which might include insulating the conductor, cabling components, incorporating other components in a multi-conductor cable, taping, shielding, or jacketing. While relatively uncommon to supply just an insulation or resin, each scenario is unique, and we welcome having a discussion about whether or not toll manufacturing is the best option.
